RESTART patronages “Horizon 2030: Italy between 5G and 6G” | September 17, 2025, Bologna

On September 17, 2025, the Auditorium of the Opificio Golinelli in Bologna will host “Horizon 2030: Italy between 5G and 6G” a landmark event for the world of telecommunications and technological innovation, promoted in collaboration with CNIT/WiLab and with the participation of the RESTART Foundation.

The day, divided into plenary sessions and live demonstrations, will offer a unique opportunity to discuss the prospects, challenges, and opportunities associated with the transition from 5G to 6G. After institutional greetings from Nicola Blefari (RESTART), the program will feature presentations by academics, operators, and representatives of the TLC industry, including Roberto Verdone (CNIT/WiLab), Laura Di Raimondo (ASSTEL), Massimo Vanetti (SME Alliance), Enrico Buracchini (TIM), Maurizio Fodrini (Fibercop), Francesco Carpentieri (Open Fiber), and many others.

Particular attention will be paid to:

• Italy’s role within 3GPP and the operating methods of international standards;
• emerging use cases for 6G (TR 22.870), including Sensing Networking and non-terrestrial networks;
• the proof of concept tests carried out by WiLab, with demonstrations on AGVs connected to the 5G network and joint experiments with Huawei (ISAC, Torre Garisenda).

Main objectives:

• Analyze the opportunities offered by 6G for industry and SMEs
• Promote dialogue between academia, operators, and businesses
• Share experiences and visions for the informed and sustainable adoption of new technologies

The program also includes a Joint Panel with IEEE CSCN dedicated to industrial automation, entitled “6G for Industrial Automation: Telcos Call, Will Industry Respond?”, with the participation of international experts such as Xue Li An (5G ACIA) and Sparsh Singhal (NGNM).

The event represents a key opportunity to discuss the future of mobile networks and their impact on Italian manufacturing, in line with RESTART’s mission to support research, innovation, and industrial competitiveness.
