On April 7, 2025, the final phase of the TLC Games, the Telecommunications Olympiad aimed at high school students, promoted by the RESTART Research and Development Program and organized by CNIT – National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications – was held at the Talent Garden in Rome.

The initiative involved more than 300 female students from all over the country, structuring itself in three main phases:

Phase I – Multimedia Project
Participating teams submitted multimedia papers on the theme “Telecommunications of the Future,” proposing innovative and original visions.

Phase II – Capture The Flag
It was held online on a dedicated platform, engaging the 60 teams in ten practical tests related to key issues in the telecommunications industry.

Phase III – Final
The four teams with the best scores from Phase II took part in an in-person challenge consisting of four technical tests, curated by academics and industry partner companies.

The trials at the Finals consisted of:

  • Precision Tracking organized by Laura Galluccio of the University of Catania and Emanuele Raso of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in collaboration with the company STMicroelectronics: using a STEVAL-SMARTAG2 NFC sensor-board, the finalists tackled three mini-challenges to monitor environmental parameters in critical conditions, proposing possible real-world applications;
  • Easter Scattering organized by Giuseppe Ruello of the University of Naples Federico II and Tiziana Cattai of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”: through the use of a radar instrument, students had to detect inside three Styrofoam eggs objects hidden inside them;
  • Impossible switchboard organized by Matteo Di Stefano and Eleonora Iucchi of the company Vianova: the challenge required the design and configuration of a working telecommunications network, including navigation and calling tests;
  • Mischievous receiver organized by Giacomo Belocchi, Lorenzo Bracciale and Luca Petrucci of the University of Rome Tor Vergata: consisted of a treasure hunt based on LoRa signals transmitted by hidden devices. Participants had to locate signal sources using a receiver subject to operating constraints and interference.

At the end of the day, the most deserving teams were awarded prizes:

1st prize – 5000 €: ITET Blaise Pascal of Foggia with the team I Pascalini
2nd prize – 3000 €: IIS Aldini Valeriani of Bologna with the team FC LifeSync
3rd prize – 2000 €: ITI Pino Hensemberger of Monza with the team A.T.L.B.

The main sponsors of the TLC Games 2025 were Vianova and ST Microelectronics, who also made technical contributions for the conduct of Phase III, Telebit, Nextworks and Nokia.
